This week has been a very interesting week for pop-culture. I had the chance, finally, to sit down and watch the Oprah interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Honestly, at first, I was a little sympathetic to the situation they find themselves in. But, that didn’t last long at all. I then remembered that she is an actress by trade, not the best, but good enough to pull off playing the role of the poor girl treated like an outcast by a racist royal family. She played the part well.
The more I watched the interview and the more time I have had to reflect on it, I realize that all they are doing is lowering the bar and driving a huge wedge between her husband and his family. Listening to her talk about her time in Brittain, you would swear that she was kidnapped by A-Qaeda and tortured for 2 years and then finally managed to escape her mean, rude and racist captures. This of course is not the case.
I’m sure that giving up your individualism and privacy is not easy to deal with, but doing so in the lap of luxury in a literal palace with every want and need met wouldn’t be that difficult. Maybe it proved to be too difficult for her?
Regardless of how you feel, throwing shade on the Queen of England and accusing her of racism, isn’t a good look. It will be interesting to see where this story goes and if the walls that they both placed between them and the Royal family will ever able to be torn down. At this point, they are some pretty high and thick walls.
